Gerrard fears season could be over for Aston Villas Lucas Digne after injury in defeat to Spurs

Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard fears that Lucas Digne could miss the remainder of the season after the full-back left Villa Park with his arm in a sling following his side's 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Digne, 28, was substituted in the 80th minute after sustaining a shoulder injury.

“He’s in a sling. Looks like a collarbone issue,” Gerrard said.

“If it’s what we fear, it could be season over for him. The doctors are concerned.”

Digne has had a recent run of unfortunate injuries which has stopped him from picking up consistent minutes for Villa.

He missed his team's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on March 19 after the France international was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

After returning from international duty, Digne played 13 minutes of Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers before being substituted with illness.

Son Heung-min scored a hat-trick while his fellow Tottenham forward Dejan Kulusevski added his name to the scoresheet.

After Saturday’s results, Villa drop to 12th. They have seven Premier League games remaining as they look to finish in the top half of the table.

First, they travel to Leicester on Saturday, April 23. Brendan Rodgers’ side are 10th, one point above Villa.
